Chiropractic Care for Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Your shoulder is the most complex and mobile joint in the body and as a result, is subject to a wide range of injuries and complaints.  Some of the most common reasons for pain in the shoulder include neck and upper back problems, arthritis in the shoulder joints, repetitive muscle strain, faulty muscle and movement patterns,  sports injuries, and automobile accidents.

Due to the wide range of causative factors, shoulder pain or abnormal movement in the shoulder may develop gradually or come on suddenly.  Since the shoulder joint is used in almost all of our daily activities, any injury to the area can be very disruptive and should be taken seriously and treated appropriately.

Shoulder Pain Treatment

The most appropriate treatment for your shoulder pain is often dependent on its cause. Fortunately, chiropractic care along with rehabilitation and strengthening can be very effective for many common shoulder complaints.

We begin with a thorough orthopedic and neurologic evaluation to rule out serious damage or pathology.   As the shoulder is obviously connected to your neck and spine, we also evaluate these areas to figure out if they are contributing to the problem.    Many shoulder problems can be traced to poor mobility of the neck and upper back, and the nerves that come from those areas.

Whether the pain is originating from the spine or the shoulder joints and muscles, chiropractic care can provide a non-invasive and effective treatment to improve pain, mobility, and strength.

Symptoms of Shoulder Pain

Symptoms indicating the need for an evaluation of the shoulder include;

  • shoulder pain that lasts for more than a week,
  • shoulder pain that goes away and then returns frequently,
  • difficulty raising your arm above your head,
  • weakness or pain when carrying objects,
  • pain in the shoulder joint that becomes more pronounced in the evening,
  • any obvious signs of damage to the joint such as bruising or swelling,
  • painful snapping or clicking  in the joint during movement.

As with most conditions, the most effective treatment depends on cause of the problem. Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center is fully equipped and trained the assessment of  shoulder pain, and providing you with the propler guidance for treatment and rehabilitation.
