The short version
The Arthrostim is a handheld instrument used for spinal and extremity adjustments and soft-tissue treatment. It uses localized vibration to trigger neurologic relaxation in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments around a joint, reducing tension and spasms to help the joint move better. It is especially useful for people who dislike or don’t tolerate the “popping and cracking” of manual adjustments.
Not everyone is comfortable with hands-on adjustments. Some people dislike — or simply don’t tolerate — the “popping and cracking” of a manual adjustment, have a joint that needs a lighter touch, or need to be adjusted sitting up or in motion rather than lying on a table. The Arthrostim is a gentler, instrument-assisted way to get a similar effect, and it’s one of the tools we use most often at Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center.
The Arthrostim is a handheld instrument used for spinal and extremity adjustments and soft-tissue treatment.
It uses localized vibration to trigger neurologic relaxation in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments around a joint, reducing tension and spasms and helping the joint move better.
Unlike a manual adjustment, which typically involves a single thrust, the Arthrostim delivers multiple rapid thrusts — about 12 thrusts per second. That repetitive input is thought to build on itself and stimulate the nerves around a joint more than a single thrust would.
It can also be used to make adjustments in different postures or positions, such as sitting or standing, or while you are moving through different motions.
We often use the Arthrostim alongside manual adjustments and other therapies. It is one tool in a larger toolbox, not a stand-alone treatment. We commonly reach for it as part of care for spine and joint pain and stiffness, soft-tissue tension, and headaches and neck pain.
Every plan at Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center is individualized. Whether the Arthrostim is part of your care — and how it is combined with hands-on adjustments, soft-tissue treatment, exercise and rehab, or other therapies — depends on your evaluation, your needs, and your comfort.

If that sounds like you, tell us. How you feel about being adjusted matters, and there is usually more than one way to approach your care.

You don’t have to decide before you come in. At your visit, we evaluate how you move, talk through your history and goals, and explain the approach we recommend — including whether the Arthrostim fits.
