5 Ailments a Neck Adjustment Can Help Ease

You likely know that a neck adjustment can be performed to relieve neck pain. But there are many other ailments a neck adjustment can help ease. At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we first assess the different muscle groups in your neck. Then, we base your adjustment on which muscle group is tight and determine what is causing the tightness. More often than not, a neck adjustment can help ease these ailments:

  1. Headaches

As if Americans weren’t sedentary enough, many of us are now working remotely. Sitting in front of a computer or binge-watching television is terrible for our posture and has negative effects on our neck and spine. If you find yourself having frequent headaches, it could be that you have muscle tension in your neck. Taking pain-reducing pills can only do so much as it is a temporary aid. We can address this tension through chiropractic care, as well as offer advice on exercises, ergonomic postures, and nutrition that can also help ease your discomfort long term.

  1. Vertigo

If you feel dizzy, off-balance, and have the sensation of the room spinning around you, you likely have vertigo. Vertigo is an unpleasant condition that can be alleviated by a neck adjustment. We target joints that aren’t moving properly and are causing misalignment in your neck.  An article from Healthfully on chiropractic treatment of vertigo states, “In the upper neck, faulty motion patterns create misinformation about body position and movement going from the joints to the brain. This type of vertigo, called cervicogenic vertigo, can be helped by chiropractic manipulation.”

If your vertigo is caused by inner ear issues, we can perform the epley maneuver, a non-invasive re-positioning technique used to return the components of the ear back to normalcy.

  1. Balance issues

If you’re not experiencing proper neck mobility, you likely feel off-balance. When you can’t move your head, you can’t move the rest of your body correctly. Compensating with the rest of your body further aggravates misalignment and can cause pain in other areas. An example of this would be when you turn your whole body to look behind you while driving because of your neck pain which then causes back pain.

  1. Upper respiratory issues

People often treat cold symptoms and sinus infections with over-the-counter medicine. If you’re experiencing chronic symptoms, your immune system is compromised and needs to be addressed. While we recommend working with a physician if you’re having severe discomfort, you can also consider receiving a neck adjustment. We manipulate the nervous system, which is directly tied to your immune system. By relieving stress on the nerves, other systems can begin to function properly again.

  1. Breathing issues

Breathing issues have a huge impact on everyday life. If you have difficulty breathing and think you have to “deal with it,” think again! Just like your immune system, your lungs depend on your nervous system to function properly. Misalignment, also known as subluxations, can cause inflammation in your lungs. We can correct the subluxations causing your breathing problems, as well as teach you helpful breathing techniques to use at home.

The next time you’re tempted to take over the counter medicine or “suck it up,” consider meeting with your chiropractor. You shouldn’t suffer, and we’ll do everything we can to ease your discomfort!
