Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) Treatment at Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a very common condition we see at Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center.  It involves irritation or compression of the median nerve, which affects the thumb, index, and middle fingers. If you experience discomfort on the pinky side of your hand, it’s not carpal tunnel syndrome but may involve other nerves, specifically, the ulnar nerve.

The median nerve can get compressed anywhere along it’s path from the neck to the hand, so our holistic approach includes a thorough evaluation to determine where the pain is coming from.

We offer drug-free, non-surgical treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at our office with:

  • A full evaluation of the mobility and strength of your spine, shoulder, and arm to find the areas of movement dysfunction and irritation
  • Adjustments to relieve tension on the nerves traveling from your neck to your hand
  • Microcurrent therapy to help relieve and heal muscle and nerve inflammation
  • Specific stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Lifestyle recommendations for posture, sitting, breathing, and any other factors that may be triggering the problem.

Why a Thorough Assessment is Essential

CTS has become a catch-all diagnosis for hand numbness and tingling, but without a proper evaluation, important pieces of the puzzle are often missed. While some tests, like an EMG, can sometimes help locate areas of nerve damage, they rarely identify why the damage is occurring.

Typical treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications, bracing, and surgery, do not address common “upstream” causes in the neck, shoulder, or elbow.  Common medications prescribed for neuropathy often have significant adverse effects.  For proper treatment, it’s essential to evaluate and treat the entire path of the nerve—from the spine down to the wrist.

At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we provide a comprehensive, non-drug and non-surgical approach to help you manage and relieve carpal tunnel symptoms safely and effectively.

Our Approach to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Our approach focuses on understanding and addressing the root causes of your symptoms, not just managing pain. We offer the following treatments for CTS:

  • Comprehensive Evaluation
We assess mobility and strength throughout your spine, shoulder, and arm to locate areas of restriction or irritation that may contribute to nerve compression or inflammation.
  • Gentle Adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments help reduce stress and tension along the nerve pathways from your neck to your hand, relieving areas of compression that may contribute to your symptoms.
  • Microcurrent Therapy
This therapy targets inflammation and irritation in the muscles and nerves, offering relief and promoting the healing of inflamed tissues.
  • Targeted Stretching and Strengthening
We’ll provide exercises specifically designed to improve wrist and arm flexibility and strength, which can ease strain on the median nerve.
  • Lifestyle Recommendations
We offer guidance on posture, sitting positions, breathing techniques, and other daily habits that may contribute to carpal tunnel symptoms, helping you make adjustments that reduce stress on your wrist and hand.
