Injuries are common when you're participating in physical activity. From trips and falls to overexertion, playing sports or exercising can lead to pain. Fortunately, our chiropractic at the Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, serving Frederick, MD and the surrounding area, is able to help using natural methods.
A sports injury classifies as any injury that occurs as a result of physical activity. Sports injuries may occur to the muscles, connective tissue, bones or joints. The most common type of injuries occurs to the knees, ankles, and feet. Back injuries are common as a result of a fall. It's possible for a head injury to arise that's severe enough to cause symptoms like dizziness, especially if you should happen to develop whiplash from a contact sport.
Other examples of sports injuries include sprains and strains. A strain is a damage to a muscle, in particular, when the muscle is torn or stretched. When a ligament is twisted, torn or pulled too far apart, it causes a sprain. You may have pain, swelling, tenderness or bruising around the site if you have a sprain or a strain.
Back pain is possible from a sports injury. You could overwork your back or experience a bulging disc. Those who play golf or tennis may notice they develop pain in their shoulder or elbow that causes tendonitis, a condition where swelling occurs in a tendon.
The treatment we use depends upon your condition. If you have whiplash, neck pain or back pain, our chiro expert may recommend you receive a spinal adjustment. A spinal adjustment, also known as a spinal alignment, consists of our chiropractor using manual manipulation that realigns the vertebrae and discs in the back. Ultimately, this takes pressure off of the nerves and muscles surrounding the spine. It enhances blood flow throughout the area in order to promote healing. Spinal decompression is another treatment our chiro practitioner might utilize for back pain. This treatment uses traction to gently stretch the spine and take pressure off of the discs in between the vertebrae.
Exercise therapy is a common chiropractic treatment for sports injuries. It consists of a chiropractor guiding you through exercises that stretch your muscles, which reduces stress and tension in the muscles safely. The exercises will decrease your pain, increase your flexion and help restore function to the injured area.
Our chiropractic expert may recommend you change your lifestyle. It's possible you'd benefit from nutritional changes, which optimize the nutrients amounts you intake in order to promote healing. Our chiropractor will recommend changes to your diet and may potentially prescribe a supplement to ensure you get enough nutrients. We might also advise you to make changes to your daily routine. Our chiropractor will teach you ways to prevent injuries in the future.
Chiropractic care can also help prevent injuries in the first place, by improving balance, muscle strength, and stability. Check out the video below to learn more!

I found Dr. Morrone to be very pleasant and I find her approach refreshing. Other chiropractors I have visited basically give you an adjustment without discussing the neurological connections. Looking forward to working with her and also to see how she may be able to help my daughter.
